This week was all about the floors and cabinets. We were not rich enough to afford the nice hardwood floors or tile we really wanted in the main floor so we had to compromise with vinyl. They installed the vinyl wood look in the front living room, powder room and family room. The kitchen, laundry room and morning room got vinyl that looks similar to tile. Someday maybe we can afford to do the real thing. After that, the kitchen cabinets were installed. We went with the Tahoe color which is a deep cherry finish. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that ALL of the bottom cabinets had pull out shelves! Nice.
They also installed the fireplace surround and mantle. The insert is gray slate and it’s beautiful and hopefully as durable as it looks. I can’t wait to start decorating my mantle (if the kids don’t destroy the decorations). I have already started pinning some ideas for when we finally get settled (and I have a craft room of my own in which to make some crafty things!).
Some of the finishing touches that started going in this week were the banisters:
